Doing a little research....

Monday, November 10, 2008

I decided I wanted to do some research on factual information on why people have all boys or all girls -- just out of curiosity. So here are a few facts for you using my reference:

1. After dozens of tests using modern technology, the results were unanimous: virtually every semen sample tested had equal numbers of X and Y sperm, regardless of the man’s age, race, country, or fertility. They also did tests on a select group of men - those with 4 boys (no daughters) and those with 4 girls (no sons). The outcome was exactly the same -- equal numbers of X & Y sperm.

2. You may have heard that if you’ve already had two or three boys or girls, the odds are that your next baby will be the same gender. But if you’re hoping to add the opposite gender to your family, take heart! The notion that you’re destined to keep having boys, or girls, is just another old wives’ tale that has no basis in fact. Real statistics show that you have a 50/50 chance of having a boy or girl with each birth, regardless of the gender of your previous children.

3. Although you would expect to find boys and girls born in equal numbers in a large population, the actual normal birth ratio is about 51% boys. For every 100 girls born, 104 to 105 boys come into the world. No one is sure exactly why boy births outnumber girl births, but this ratio has been observed for decades in the US Census, and in the populations of most other countries.

So if you’re hoping for a son, you have a small numerical advantage on your side: there is at least a 51% chance that any birth will be a boy.

I know Heavenly Father has a plan for our family and I know he has the final say -- no matter what the scientists say. :) With that said, I am excited and content to have another little girl join our family.

Interesting info:) I bet Ken loves his little girls but would love a boy to add to the mix! Just keep those babies coming and I am sure you will have one eventually:) Easier said then done I do realize myself.

I have to say that it might be hard to have all girls but when they get older they will all be the best of friends. I came from a family of all girls 5 total, and my parents are loving every minute of it.

I am from 4 girls and I have a hard time thinking of it any other way, brothers are a foreign concept. Keep in mind that four daughters (hopefully) brings four son-in-laws, which have been a total blast in our growing family.

I just read your comment and I love spending time with family but my mom having 17 1/2 grandkids it gets really crazy so I like it for a week then I like to come home for a little rest. That funny that you think I look like my sisters, I feel like the odd ball out!
