The Joy of the Winter Season

Saturday, December 20, 2008

I usually love the winter, being able to snuggle up on the couch with blankets, drink hot chocolate, and watch Christmas movies. However, the past couple of weeks we've been plagued with non-stop sickness. Ellie got an ear infection about 2 weeks ago. After 4 nights of getting up in the middle of the night (after she had finished her meds), she finally told me that her ear hurt. I think she didn't want ear drops, so every night I would ask if her ear hurt and she would say no. I didn't want to be the paranoid mother that took their kid in because they were just waking up at night. So yesterday we went back in to get another dose of antibiotics. Sunday night Caitlin woke up screaming that her ears hurt. So Monday we went to the dr. and they were both BADLY infected, even though she hadn't complained at all until that night. She also has pink eye from being obsessive about blowing her nose. Sunday Ken also started to not feel very well and by Monday night was all congested, chills, body aches, etc. Mine started on Tuesday and I tried to sleep in off most of the day. I thought mine was going away -- each day it seemed to get better, but by Friday I woke up with a horrible sore throat and ear pain. So Ken, Ellie, and I headed to the dr. on Friday morning. Ken had a sinus infection and Ellie's ears were infected. I hadn't had terrible symptoms of a sinus infection, so he wanted to be safe and just let the "cold" pass. Well, by this morning I felt like I had been hit by a bus. I went back in and got some antibiotics. Tylenol just wasn't cutting it for me. I tell you, between pregnancy and being all congested, sleeping hasn't been very fun. Looking forward to a good nights sleep one of these days!

So hopefully by Christmas we'll be 100% better! I haven't got much shopping done this week, luckily I still have a few days next week. Yes, I am one of those that doesn't get all of their shopping done by the last week in November...but oh, this would have been the perfect year to start!

Brindy!! That sucks! I really don't think there is anything worse than little kids getting an ear infection. They could not have it one minute and get it the next. I hope you feel better soon so you can have a fun Christmas!

Yuck, it sounds horrible! We were sick all through November and the first week of December(colds, barfing, you name it) and so I know a little bit of how you feel! I am so sorry, I was so sad that you guys didn't get to come to the Christmas party. Preston and I totally owe you guys dinner for rescuing our car from short-term parking, so when you are feeling better, let me know!!!
