We scheduled our induction date for Sunday, February 22nd. It happened that I was 38 weeks on Ellie's birthday, so my Dr. was kind enough to let me go a couple days over and deliver on a Sunday to avoid having birthdays on the same day. My brother and his wife were kind enough to come up Saturday night to sleep over since we had to be there so early in the morning. They stayed with them all day waiting patiently for the news to come up to the hospital, I think they were exhausted by the end of the day. :)We arrived at the hospital around 7:30 am and go all hooked up. I took one last picture of my big tummy and before I got it to my stylish hospital gown. I was dilated to a 2 -- not as much as I was hoping. They started the Pitocin an hour later. My dr. came in at 9:45 prepared to break my water, I was still dilated to a 2 though. She was worried that she might have flipped around and that is why I wasn't dilating. I thought "Sure, whatever...I haven't felt any major movement". So they grabbed the ultrasound machine and sure enough, her head was in my left rib...which would explain the uncomfortable pain. I really think she flipped within that hour, otherwise the nurse would have caught it before she started the Pitocin. I had so much fluid in me though that she was pretty much swimming around in there. I was about to panic thinking "I am going to have to have a C-Section on my last child!" My dr. was optimistic that she could flip her around since she hadn't dropped yet, I had lots of fluid, and I've had other children. So they had to stop the pitocin and give me a shot to relax my uterus. She came back in about 15 minutes later to put mineral oil on my stomach and push her back down. I had a version with Ellie, but not at 38 weeks - boy was it painful! My dr. was amazing and got her down the first try, thank goodness. So we were back to square one with the Pitocin. I sat straight up instead of laying down to prevent her from flipping back over. Finally at 2:30 I was dialted enough to have my water broken. I got my epidural about an hour later. I was dialted to 6 at 4:00 and by 4:45 I was at a 10. I told them a couple times that I go fast once I am at a 5-6. So my plan to have the baby by 1:00 pm was thrown out the window. This baby has had more tricks up her sleeve than I know what to do with. :)
My mom and sister, Brande, arrived at 4:30 and I was able to have them in the room when I delivered Sophie. My mom was at the 2006 Olympics when Ellie was born, so it was good to have her there this time. Shortly after she was born I was sitting in the room holding her with it so peaceful and I thought "I could do this all over again!" Even though 1 week before I was telling everybody that I couldn't do it again...I'm getting too old. Heavenly Father knows what he's doing when he erases our memory so quickly. :)
