If you've heard about the school with the 2 kids getting hit within a 3 week period...that would be my school. On Wednesday I was in charge of the afternoon kindergarten carpool. I decided to run inside while I was there to talk to the principal about what happened. While there Channel 5 came and wanted to talk to some mom's. I particularly didn't want to be on camera -- but I didn't have a choice being the PTA pres. If you're interested take a look at the story here. I can't seem to get the video to work, maybe you'll have better luck.
I was frustrated at all the comments on the story and the many assumptions that us as parents weren't doing anything but complaining to the city. We've been going by the rules in the book -- we as parents and volunteers CANNOT be the ones to be the crossing guards (as much as we would like to be). There is huge liability that the city and district will not take accountability for if something were to happen. I would have to say that it's 75% of the parents responsibility to teach their children how to cross a crosswalk. They can't assume they already know the rules. They need practice walking to school with them -- but that's not always possible. The crazy thing is....most of us who are fighting for a crossing guard (or anything for that matter) are ones who DRIVE our children to school. Funny huh?

I saw you on the news wich was wierd because I never watch the news. It just happened to be on that day. I yelled "hey it's Brindy!" You sounded very smart and got your message out. Great job.
I reloaded the link from KSL and got it to work. I think you and all of the other parents did a great job articulating the issues. Hopefully someone will listen!
Great Job! Your absolutely right... kids, most of the time, don't think before they do something. Hopefully the problem will be solved soon before something really awful happens.
My mom actually called me to tell me that you were on the news and to hurry and change the channel to KSL! You did a great job, and I think you got your message across really well! Good job!
PS. can I have your autograph? :)
I think you guys did very well with the interview. Hope they do something soon...
Way to go Brindy!! I am impressed and I hadn't heard about any of that-I guess I am out of the loop since all my kids are Preschool age. Anyway, good job and I hope they do something soon!!
